Zelda DS Lite mod demands slew of positive adjectives
Being a generally mild mannered and lackadaisical bunch, we become worried when an impressive DS Lite mod appears on eBay and suddenly implants within us desires that are nothing short of sinister. Crafted by the same hands and mechanical forceps (probably) that produced an equally attractive Legend of Zelda Wii makeover just over a month ago, this particular variant of Nintendo's portable powerhouse demands a dramatic increase in our current rupee supply.
We don't care how many blades of grass we have to mercilessly chop down or how many pots must be senselessly shattered to further our goal. This little device, with its customized charging stand and LED that is "calibrated to not be overbearing or too dim" must be ours.
Or yours, if you outbid us. True, a portion of your money would go to Penny Arcade's Child's Play charity, but we'd forever hold a grudge. The kind of grudge that will see all your precious (and amusingly buoyant) pigs tossed into the nearest ocean.

It's so beautiful! All it needs is a gold-card Phantom Hourglass in the SD-card slot.
I also want that Wii mod.
Todd @ May 3rd 2007 3:59PM
Hot damn. That is tremendous. The Zelda insignia (pewter or plastic) looks very good, detailed. I give kudos to the modder.
Biohaz4rd @ May 3rd 2007 4:02PM
I have that same emblem on my hoodie xD.
Arno @ May 3rd 2007 4:03PM
Fugly?
I dunno, there's something unappealing about gold.
Slaziman @ May 3rd 2007 4:08PM
I don't like the way random parts are gold and others black. It can't compare to the awesome Wii mod
Blizz4l9 @ May 3rd 2007 4:08PM
@ Zertoss
thats not a wii mod thats a DS lite in a stand
BPM @ May 3rd 2007 4:19PM
Blizz, he was referencing the Zelda Wii mod that was sold on eBay a while back by the same console modder. Click the link "Wii makeover" to see it.
This DS mod is definitely the most extravagant one so far. It's very cool how the emblem turns when you change the system orientation. And, how there's an LED under the emblem that lights up.

@Blizz
you just pwnt yourself
he is referring to the Wii mod LINKED IN THE ARTICLE
brian @ May 3rd 2007 4:33PM
Blizz is a idiot
Bryan @ May 3rd 2007 4:35PM
That guy can take shots as well as he can mod. That's some nice photography.
Patrick @ May 3rd 2007 5:22PM
all i can say is ben heck watch your back. but what if they joined forces? damn

bidder @ May 3rd 2007 5:25PM
I've already set it up to automatically bid $1,000 in event someone tries to outbid me, so everybody just step off! It's mine!
Ratchet the Lombax @ May 3rd 2007 5:24PM
The only fault that I can find, and it is a minor one is that I would be afraid the the emblem thing would come off if you put it in your pocket. I know with something like this your not really going to want to carry it around like that. Sorry that's just my anal retentive nature showing anyway top notch mod.
Sean D. @ May 3rd 2007 6:30PM
It's currently at $500? It's certainly not worth whatever it's going to sell for. Who's bidding on that thing? Aren't there like a million other things your money would be better spent on?
Ratchet the Lombax @ May 3rd 2007 5:38PM
I set mine to go up to $1500 (just kidding) If you want to save yourself alot of money just paint your ds gold and then attach this to the top of it all together your out maybe 12 bucks. And you have the sense of pride that comes from doing it yourself.
Link for the zelda emblem thing (no pun intended)

RagnarokSam @ May 3rd 2007 6:23PM
yeah, i bought that pin from Hot Topic for 6 dollars...lol, i cant believe they put a pin on a DS.
haywood jablomey @ May 3rd 2007 6:24PM
@12. If that emblem is pewter (I think it is), I'd be worried about the hinges/positions of the top screen becoming loose, or worse. That's assuming it's being used frequently.
Otherwise, pretty neat!
Sean D. @ May 3rd 2007 6:36PM
It really is only $5 for that Shield pin at hot topic:

Save yourself a few hundred and make one yourself!
NeverSage @ May 3rd 2007 7:13PM
Damn. Me wants the precious
Adam @ May 3rd 2007 8:17PM
ok so with a $129 DS and a tri-wing screw driver plus an air brush and a pin from hot topic I can sell a DS for close to 1 grand!!! There is a quote I want to bring up here "A sucker is born every second"
I mean its ok work but that does not look like something the average person with a tiny amount of talent could turn out....I think I am going to make one so i can buy a car...
Seroth @ May 3rd 2007 8:43PM
Looks really cool, but doesn't seem like it'd be pocket-friendly, thanks to the emblem thing on it.
shivr @ May 4th 2007 5:53PM
well it already costs more than a ps3...
Bob @ May 4th 2007 7:46PM
its looks so cool.
the guy should make one about pokemon, instead of the shield he should put a pikachu and a yellow light
